Dermal Science International Aesthetics & Nails Academy is proud to announce that since October, we are ITEC certified, becoming the only aesthetic academy to gain the internationally recognized industry benchmark in Northern Virginia and the Metro-Washington area.
“This accreditation is essentially a second passport for our students,” said Shiva Vahid, CEO of DSI, “and allows them to become front-runners for the best jobs in the industry in other countries, on cruise ships or the most exclusive of spas. We are thrilled.”
What is ITEC?
Established in 1945, ITEC is the International Therapy Examination Council, accredited by the UK government and accepted as the highest quality standard of aesthetics throughout Europe, Canada, Asia, Australia and Africa. ITEC’s goal is to ensure that each aesthetic student has a full understanding of his or her specific area of expertise.
ITEC qualifications cover six areas: Beauty, Hairdressing, Complementary (Holistic) Therapies, Sport, Customer Services and Teaching & Lecturing.
Why go for the ITEC Challenge?
High-tech treatments are in increasing demand in the aesthetic industry. The rigorous standards that ITEC training meets goes further than what is required by the typical State licensing board exams.
“State licensing board examinations do not test for skills or proficiency and only look for minimum competency,” Shiva explains. “They also include examination in other areas related to the industry that have nothing to do with the skills or experience of the students.”
Students in ITEC training are tested by an independent examination system and those qualifications automatically articulate with the European Qualification Framework. This is preferable to other training programs, Shiva believes, such as what is provided by the Swiss-based Comité International d’Esthétique (CIDESCO), which chooses to sit outside all government regulation and have no external quality assurance or audits.
DSI intends to meet and exceed ITEC standards.
“I like the idea of a highly respected organization putting DSI training and education to the test!” Shiva said.
How Does ITEC-Certification Benefit Students?
The clear benefit is opportunity.
Students who meet the high standards of the ITEC-certified programs are considered the best in the industry. This increases their earnings potential by allowing them access to the international employment world, able to work in the most exclusive spas, salons and cruise ships.
Shiva should know…her international diploma in health and beauty allowed her work on the luxury cruise liner The Queen Elizabeth, as well as in the most exclusive spas and schools in Australia and the UK.
